ARCADES, POETRY & PIRATES
Chiavari and the Five Lands
(3 days, 2 nights)
CHIAVARI
The town of CHIAVARI, just 34 km from Genoa, is located in the middle of the Ligurian Eastern Riviera in an area rich of natural attractions, close to pretty villages such as:
Portofino (evocative of the most exclusive jet set rituals, yet also the most intact authentic environment in the Mediterranean area);
Rapallo (a town with a famous marina, golf club, riding centre, beach sand, and rich in cultural events);
Santa Margherita Ligure (one of the most elegant of seaside towns).
The medieval town centre of Chiavari is of rare beauty, with its arcades, its fascinating shops (market day on Friday), its vibrant social life and its antiques shops . You can take a walk along Caruggio Dritto or have a stroll on the beautiful sea front.
Chiavari is a small, harmonious, town with the gentle presence of the sea. Here you can find the truly noble elegance of tranquil avenues bordered by the luxurious gardens of old villas, or an interesting and well-stocked museum of the Renaissance.
Right in the center of Chiavari stands the hotel we suggest for your stay.
The Hotel has a very friendly atmosphere and all the modern services that an excellent hotel could offer to its guests. All the staff can speak English and will do everything possible to make your stay unforgettable. Available to guests are a private garage parking, bar and sun terrace. Comfortable double and single bedrooms have recently been refurbished, and are equipped with telephone, mini-bar and colour TV with satellite channels. The hotel is famous for its hospitality and fine cuisine; it offers continental breakfast, complete with pastries made in the hotel's own kitchens, delicious meals with recipes from the local area or a variety of fresh fish dishes.
THE FIVE LANDS
Recognized as National Park in 1999 and UNESCO protected territory since 1997, the Five Lands are a very particular shoreline of the Italian mediterranean coast. The Five Lands (Cinque Terre) are five old fishing villages surrounded by hills characterized by the presence of vineyards and olives trees, cultivated during the years by means of a system of terracing, that contribute to create truly spectacular views.
The best way to discover and enjoy the Five Lands is on foot. There is a very beautiful and easy footpath (only thirty-minute walk) called the The Lovers' Pathway, La Via dell'Amore, carved into the cliffs between Riomaggiore and Manarola; but if you love trekking you should go through the old paths that until a short while ago were the only communication routes between the five villages.
Our suggestion will allow you to discover this little five villages in one day using the train for an easy and quick connection between them (except for the Via dell'Amore), giving you enough time to discover the particular beauty of each village.
During the third day we advise you to visit Portofino by means of a boat, a trip that enable you to spend enough time in this beautiful "VIP" village and to see the particular cost of the Tigullio Gulf from the see.
